Understanding anxiety and calming a nervous system stuck on high alert, using practical, science-based tools.

MONKEY THERAPY FOR ANXIETY

When worry takes over

Anxious thoughts are worries about what might happen in the future. They can magnify small concerns, like traffic or dentist visits. Or help us consider big issues, like ill health or job insecurity. Our fear responses are designed to help us face threats right here and now.

But here's the twist: our brains can blur fact and imagination. And our bodies react similarly to anticipatory anxiety and immediate threats.

Anxious thinking creates a brain-body feedback loop. Anxious thoughts prompt stress hormones (adrenaline, cortisol) that cause body sensations (rapid heartbeat, shallow breathing) and those sensations intensify anxious thoughts, perpetuating the cycle.

Break the anxiety cycle

Monkey Therapy helps you break the anxiety cycle by discovering what's driving your anxiety, calming your mind and body, and finding new ways to respond.

Combining talking therapy, brain-body approaches and neuroprocessing, we tailor the work to you and your needs.

What to expect in sessions

How Monkey Therapy helps with anxiety

  • Understand your anxiety. Identify the beliefs, experiences and patterns behind your worries, including those you may not be aware of.

  • Build trust in yourself. Connect with the anxious part that's trying to protect you. Learn how to respond to anxious feelings from a place of calm and clarity, rather than being controlled by them.

  • Calm your mind and body. Learn practical techniques to soothe your nervous system and feel more grounded before anxiety takes over.

  • See things differently. Develop more helpful ways of thinking. Find new perspectives and let go of the beliefs that don't serve you anymore.

  • Work through deeper fears. Use IFS and neuroprocessing approaches, such as Brainspotting, to address persistent fears and distressing experiences.

  • Turn anxiety into useful energy. Understand what your emotions are telling you and learn to channel their energy in more helpful ways.

  • Build lasting resilience. Develop new coping skills, strengthen your confidence and practise different ways of responding in everyday life.

The aim isn't to eliminate anxiety altogether. It's to help you understand it, soothe it, feel a greater sense of agency, and make room for a life that isn't ruled by worry.

MONKEY THERAPY FOR STRESS

When stress becomes overwhelming

Stress is our brain's way of providing us with the energy that we need to rise to a challenge. Whether we find stress helpful or overwhelming depends on how we view our ability to cope with the demanding situation.

If we think that we can handle it, our brain sharpens our focus, increases our energy, and heightens our learning and problem-solving capabilities. Olé!

If we believe that we can't cope with a situation, our brains trigger a fear response: fight, flight, fawn, or freeze.

Monkey Therapy focuses on your brain and body's reaction to stress and maximising your capacity to handle stressors.

How Monkey Therapy helps with stress:

  • Uncover your underlying causes of stress. Discover underlying, sometimes hidden, beliefs and ways of thinking that get in the way of accessing your innate strengths and capabilities.

  • Desensitise stress triggers. Use neuroprocessing approaches such as Brainspotting to address persistent fears and past distressing experiences.

  • Change self-defeating thought patterns and harness the energy of stress. Shift from thoughts like “I can't handle this” or “I'm overwhelmed” towards greater self-belief, so you can feel more capable, focused and able to put your energy into what matters most.

  • Calm your mind and body. Learn to calm your body so you can think more clearly, process information, and problem-solve.

  • Regain a sense of control. While you can't always change stressful situations, you can change how you respond. Together, we'll explore novel ways through and create achievable steps towards change.

  • Build resilience and self-belief. Develop self-compassion, strengthen your confidence, and learn to bounce back from setbacks with greater ease.
